Gradings

The syllabus is a guide to the level of proficiency a candidate should have attained when taking a grading. A selection of techniques taken from the grade being taken, and of previous grades, should be demonstrated at Kata speed, done from left & right, irimi & tenkan (where appropriate). All techniques must be received as well as given.

Up to and including 4th Kyu the emphasis is placed on Kihon no wasa (basic technique). Then from 3rd Kyu onwards, emphasis is placed on the development of Ki no nagare (flow of Ki). Students are continuously monitored throughout their training and instruction is given to achieve the necessary level for the grade being taken.

The weapons system runs along side the core syllabus resulting in two grades, one in basic Ai Ki Do and one in Ai Ki Ko-budo.
